Team scoring

Best Ball Gross
+ Best Ball Net

The Double Eagle Invitational Pro-Am is a five-person team event, each consisting of an invited professional and four amateur partners. The professional plays for a total of $100,000 in prize money, based on the individual 72- hole competition and the position of the team at the end of the tournament. The team position of the event is a best-ball gross PLUS best-ball net competition.

USGA rules and local rules apply

Team Format

Teams consist of one professional and four amateur partners. Within each flight division and in the overall competition, teams will compete in a one-best-ball gross PLUS one-best-ball net competition. This requires two balls to complete each hole, as the score for anyone participant can count for gross OR net (not both). The professional’s ball is part of the team format and shall have a designated handicap of 0.

COURSES AND PAIRINGS

Each team will play two rounds on the Nicklaus Course and two rounds on the Weiskopf Course at the Vista Vallarta Golf Club. Pairings for the 1st two rounds will be available at check-in. Pairings for the final two rounds will be determined by position in the field. Pairings for Friday and Saturday will be posted the previous evening.

Flight divisions

There will be four flight divisions, based on combined amateur handicaps.

Golf Genius Live Scoring

Live scoring is featured throughout the event using Golf Genius. Both monitors at the golf course and online access make scoring available to participants, friends and followers at home. Live scoring assists with the excitement of the event, and it is important that each team (one player only) simply posts team scores on a hole-by hole basis during the round.

Playoffs and ties

A sudden death playoff for 1st place in the 72-hole medal competition will be held immediately following the completion of the final round. The playoff will continue until a winner is declared. If weather or daylight halts the playoff at any time, the players will be deemed co-champions and share the prize monies accordingly.

Distribution of prize money

All prize money will be forwarded to professionals following the event.

Team awards

Team awards will be distributed to the overall team champions. There will be four flight divisions based on the combined handicaps of the amateur members of the team. In each flight, there will be awards for the overall champions. Ties will be broken using the following method: “the team with the lowest team score on any given day shall be determined the champion”.

Optional team buy-in

Teams have the ability to buy-in to an event pool which pays out for skins and low teams in each flight.

Handicaps

Each participant will play at the index determined by the tournament committee. This will be determined through a formula utilizing the player’s low index for the year, the player’s current index, and past performance in the tournament. Note that due to the best ball format, and with four amateurs on each team, the tournament handicaps will compute to approximately 80% of your ‘course handicap’.

The maximum tournament handicap for any participant is 16.  A player with a higher handicap may participate but will be assigned a playing handicap of 16.

The tournament handicaps assigned will be identical for both courses.

All professionals compete in the team event and are assigned a handicap of 0.

Tournament Tee Positions

Male Professionals will play a set of tees approximately 6400-6800 yards, based on age. These categories are:

Professionals Under 50 years old – Tournament Tees
Senior Professionals 50 – 59 years old – Gold Tees
Super Senior Professionals 60+ years old – Blue Tees

Female Professionals will play from the Yellow Tees at approx. 5900 yards

Male Amateurs will play either the Blue or White Tees. These measure approximately 6100-6400 yards.

Once a player’s tee is determined (in some cases amateurs will be able to choose which tees they play from), it will remain the same for the entire tournament and cannot be changed between rounds.

Women Amateurs will play a course approximately 5300 yards.

Provide information on each team member.

Ensure each participant pays his/her entry fees as noted.

Ensure each participant conducts himself/herself in a professional manner at all times, and abides by the rules of golf.

Provide verifiable handicap information and ensure all playing partners have handicap indexes which reflect their ability. This includes noting that amateur playing partners turn in all of their adjusted scores according to the rules of their governing golf association.

The professional must field a team with the understanding that his/her team will be obligated to complete each round without negatively affecting the pace of play. A team unable to complete each round in under 4.5 hours is advised not to enter, as failure to maintain an acceptable pace of play will not be tolerated.

Cancellations

The Double Eagle Invitational Pro-Am is a team event. Individual cancellations are not accepted. The team consists of five players. If an individual cancels, this individual must be replaced by the team. There is NO REFUND for an individual cancellation. If the team is unable to replace a player, the team may play with four players or an effort will be made to fill the spot with a ‘local’ player.
